What are the odds of traveling from West Virginia home to New Jersey with a car full of rescued dogs in the middle of a snowstorm and observing someone dump a dog right in front of your eyes?

Well, that's exactly what happened to Sheryl Hogan-Mueller and Debbie Eliassen of Sheryl’s Den Animal Rescue in West Milford, N.J. during February 2010.

Pepper, the malnourished and deeply afraid Labrador Retriever they saved that day, would have died had they not been there. Now, she is Sheryl's much-loved family pet.
