Leopold
The floor was cold and hard. My back leg was badly injured, infected and hurt a lot. I had been lost, alone and hungry a long time. I was brave though, didn't whine a bit and lifted my head and wagged my stubby tail when people passed by the Animal Control facility in Gary, Indiana. My owners never came for me. With my infection getting worse, my time was running out… Hi, I'm Leopold, one fortunate three-year old blue Weimaraner. My gentle demeanor and strength spoke to the AC Officers, and they wanted to give me a chance to survive. Great Lakes Weimaraner Rescue answered their plea. GLWR was driving to get me when the BARC Foundation, a non-profit group helping animals in need, stepped up and let me be their first recipient! I was quickly transported to the Animal Emergency & Treatment Center in Chicago where, despite access to the best medical staff and facilities around, my leg had to be amputated to save my life. They said there was just too much damage and infection. I made lots of friends there, recovered quickly and moved to a foster home in Wisconsin. A family in Maryland saw my three-legged self on the GLWR website and fell in love. They're driving all the way from Maryland to Wisconsin to meet little ‘ole me! Though I'm one-leg short, I will soon have a loving family and a future thanks to many strangers who didn't know me, but helped anyway. |
