Ollie
Ollie was trouble from the beginning. Rescued from a shelter, it took about a day to realize he was a maniac. He would run in circles, breaking the leash, taking off like the wind. A foster home with other dogs didn't work. Ollie bugged them too much. He was put on anti-depressant medication. It did nothing to help him. For nine months Ollie was brought to adoption. He barked non-stop. Keeping him clean was a chore. He loved dirt. Yet, his intelligence was apparent and he loved to be held. He became a little teacup in your arms. We knew his adoption would be a miracle. Then one day a woman came by who had seen him on the website. After looking at many dogs, she claimed he just ‘stuck' in her mind. She wanted him, warts and all, and the home visit proved Ollie had struck gold. We feared the call that he would be returned. It never came. Two months later we returned to the owner's home. Ollie looked gorgeous. His white hair was white, and clean. No jumping, no hyperactivity – just a happy dog. He was glad to see us, but was definitely her dog. She said he runs 4 miles a day with her. Now that's working off energy. And of course, no more medication. It was hard to believe the transformation. The old saying of "there's someone for everyone" rang true. What a great success story for Ollie and for Animal Guardians of America. |
